LEXINGTON CITY ATTORNEY
The City of Lexington (population: 7,200) is seeking an experienced, well-rounded, innovative, and responsive legal professional or legal group to provide the services of City Attorney. The Lexington City Attorney is the chief legal officer and counsel to Lexington City Council, City Manager, departments, and various committees, boards, and commissions.

Appointed by City Council, the successful candidate should be able to deal effectively with public officials, work in a fast-paced environment and under pressure, possess excellent oral and written communication skills, and perform and deliver a variety of legal services related to a diverse range of local government legal matters, including legislative drafting, compliance, code enforcement litigation, risk management, planning and zoning, freedom of information requests and procurement, etc. The City Attorney is expected to attend the twice monthly City Council meetings and may be called upon to attend other meetings of City boards or commissions.

The successful candidate must be a graduate of an accredited law school, a current member of the Virginia State Bar in good standing, and experienced in Virginia local government law. Compensation will be competitive and negotiated with the chosen individual or legal group.
